Accumulator head vs. continuous extrusion — which do you need?

Accumulator head EBM (for large & heavy parts)

In accumulator head blow molding, molten plastic is stored in an accumulator before being injected as a parison in a single shot. This method is ideal for medium to large and heavy parts — drums, IBCs, kayaks, automotive components — where the shot weight exceeds the continuous output rate of the extruder. The accumulator allows the entire parison to be injected quickly and uniformly, ensuring consistent wall thickness even on very large parts.

Typical parts: plastic drums (60L–220L), IBCs, outdoor furniture, automotive plastic fuel tanks, reservoir tank, washer tanks, type4 composite pressure cylinder,  kayaks, large industrial containers. 

Continuous extrusion EBM (for small to medium parts, high volume)

Continuous extrusion machines produce a constant parison which is captured by the mold in each cycle. Best suited for small to medium, high volume parts — HDPE bottles, jerry cans, containers, automotive fluid reservoirs — where high cycle speed and multi-cavity tooling drive productivity requires.

Typical parts: 1L–30L jerry cans, HDPE bottles, automotive coolant tanks, agricultural containers.

Key technical features

Tie-bar less clamping unit

Unlike conventional blow molding machines that use tie-bars (columns) to guide the clamping platens, our offered machines have tie-bar less design gives full, unobstructed access to the mold area from all sides. This allows processors to mount oversized molds and simplifies mold installation, removal, and maintenance. It is a significant advantage for custom part producers who run multiple mold sizes on the same machine.

3-platen clamping system

3-platen design applies clamping force to the rear of each platen through a cross beam, ensuring perfectly balanced force distribution across the entire mold face. The design also allows the mold to be loaded from above, particularly useful for large or heavy tooling.

Multi-layer and co-extrusion capability

Available with multiple extruder heads for multi-layer part production — essential for fuel system components (barrier layers), fuel tanks (EVOH or nylon barrier), and specialty packaging pharmaceutical bottles, requiring UV protection or chemical resistance layers. View strip integration is also available for containers requiring a transparent level indicator strip.

Parison wall distribution system (PWDS)

Advanced parison programming with up to full PWDS (Parison Wall Distribution System) for precise wall thickness control along the length of the parison as well as radial — minimizing material use while maintaining structural integrity in the finished part.
